About the event: Eating disorder treatment has historically been inaccessible—or even invalidating and harmful—for many people with marginalized identities. This Equip Academy brings together lived experience and clinical expertise to examine the systemic gaps in care and the urgent need for more inclusive, trauma-informed, and identity-affirming treatment spaces. We’ll discuss practical strategies to actively affirm diverse identities, challenge weight stigma and the “isms” in clinical practice, and promote healing that honors the whole person.
There will be time for Q&A.
Learning objectives: After participating in this session, attendees should be able to:
1. Define identity-affirming care in the treatment of eating disorders across diverse populations.
2. Describe the impact of intersecting identities on the development, presentation, and treatment of eating disorders.
3. Apply trauma-informed, HAES-aligned, and identity-affirming frameworks when working with individuals with eating disorders.
