About the event: Binge eating disorder (BED) is one of the most common eating disorders in the U.S., affecting people of all genders, races, and ages. At the same time, the weight loss industry continues to boom, shaping societal norms and causing some patients and/or their parents to seek weight loss as part of BED treatment. The rise of GLP-1’s have only exacerbated this reality. In addition to providing an overview of binge eating disorder treatment and symptoms, this event will discuss an important factor in treatment: weight-neutral approaches and how they can lead to positive outcomes in combination with modalities like CBT-E and FBT.
There will be time for Q&A.
Learning objectives: After participating in this session, attendees should be able to:
- Describe the general symptoms and treatment for binge eating disorder (BED).
- Explain how weight loss medications and societal pressures can be addressed within the treatment of BED.
- Identify strategies for providing weight-neutral, evidence-based treatment for BED in pediatric and adult populations.
