About the event: Up to one third of all people with an eating disorder have considered or attempted suicide at some point in their lives. Join us to learn more about the factors that lead to suicidal thoughts and behaviors in eating disorder patients, and the tools, resources, and knowledge you should have on hand for your patients. Make a difference in your patients’ lives by instilling hope, nurturing positive coping, and increasing safety.
There will be time for Q&A.
Learning objectives: After participating in this session, attendees should be able to:
- Explain the differences between nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) vs. suicidal thoughts and behavior (STB)
- Recognize the elevated risk and need to assess for NSSI and STB among people with eating disorders
- Identify necessary components for reducing suicide risk for people with eating disorders (e.g., safety planning that increases support and coping while reducing access to lethal means)
