About the event: Up to one-third of individuals with an eating disorder experience suicidal thoughts or attempts during their lifetime, making suicide risk assessment a vital competency for eating disorder clinicians. This continuing education course provides the actionable knowledge and clinical tools needed to strengthen patient safety, foster positive coping, and instill hope. Throughout this session, participants will learn to differentiate non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) from suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STB), identify key risk factors signaling an urgent need for clinical assessment, and learn three targeted interventions designed to reduce suicide risk in eating disorder populations.
Learning objectives: After participating in this session, attendees should be able to:
- Differentiate between nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) and suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STB).
- Identify factors that suggest elevated risk and need to assess for NSSI and STB among people with eating disorders.
- List three interventions for reducing suicide risk for people with eating disorders.
