Eating Disorders on Campus: Recognizing Signs & Best Practices for Treatment in College Populations (encore)

About the event: Eating disorders are on the rise among college students, with risk increasing by 13% from 2013-2021. This presentation will provide campus health professionals with evidence-based strategies to identify and compassionately support students struggling with disordered eating and eating disorders.

Drawing from her own recovery journey, Equip peer mentor Jamie Drago will share her experience navigating an eating disorder as a college student. Clinical social worker Lara Effland will then outline best practices for screening, assessment, and providing resources for treatment on campus.

With real-life examples and actionable advice, this presentation aims to empower college health staff to proactively address the rising tide of eating disorders on campus. There will be time at the end for Q&A.

  2. Summarize recommended practices for eating disorder screening, assessment, and identification in university health services and outpatient clinical settings.
  3. Describe strategies for providing individual and campus-wide support for students experiencing eating disorders and body image issues.
